Answer:

length = 24 yards

width = 3 yards

Explanation:

perimeter = 54 yards

perimeter = (2 x length) + (2 x width)

ratio of length and width = 8 : 1

total ratio of length and width is 9 = a

length = (8/9)a

width = (1/9)a

perimeter = (2 x 8/9)a + (2 x 1/9)a = (16/9)a + (2/9)a = (18/9)a = 2a = 54

a = 54/2 = 27 yards

length = 8/9 x 27 = 24 yards

width = 1/9 x 27 = 3 yards
