x=3 ; y=1

Explanation:

y=3x-8 ---- 1

x+y = 4. ----- 2

Put value of y from equation 1 in equation 2,

x+3x-8 = 4

Adding x terms,

4x-8 = 4

Adding 8 on both the sides,

4x = 12

Dividing by 4,

x = 3

Put the value of x in equation 2,

3 + y = 4

Subtract 3 from both the sides,

y = 4-3 = 1

x=3 ; y=1
