Tim is planning a party for his daughter, Sophia. The party has a beach theme. Tim plans to fill a sandbox with fresh sand so the kids can build sandcastles. The sandbox is twelve feet long and two feet tall. The width of the sandbox is half of its length. What is the volume of sand needed to fill the sandbox?

Answer:

144 cubic feet of sand is needed to fill the sandbox

Explanation:

Length = 12 ft

Height = 2 ft

Width = length ÷ 2 = 6 ft

Volume = length x width x height

Volume = 12 x 2 x 6

Volume = 12 x 12

Volume = 144 cubic ft
