when f(x) is divided by (x - h) then the remainder is f(h)

f(x) = x³ - 9x² + 6x + 2 with h = 1 , then

f(1) = 1³ - 9(1)² + 6(1) + 2 = 1 - 9 + 6 + 2 = 0

since the remainder is 0 then (x - 1) is a factor of f(x)
