Suppose y varies directly as x. Write a direct variation equation that relates x and y. Then solve.

y1/x1 = y2/x2

We know y1 = 22, x1 = 8, and x2 = -16. Thus:

22/8 = y/-16, or

y = [(22)(-16)]/8

Thus, by multiplication and division:

y = -44

I hope this helps!! Goodluck!!
