8 - 2 (4 + 2^2) i put my answer as 48 but the teacher says its wrong? please explain

If equation equals 8 - 2(4+2^2) than solution is below: (using the distributive property)


8 - 2 (4 + 2^(2))\\8 - ((2*4)+(2*2^(2)))\\8 - ((2*4)+(2*4}))\\8 - ((8) + (8))\\8- (16)\\\\=-8

If equation equals 2 - 2 (4+2^2) than solution below: (simply multiplying the parenthesis first, than solving it step by step)


8-2*(4+2^(2))\\8-2*(4+4)\\8-2*8\\8-(2*8)\\8-16\\\\=-8
