Explanation:

sale = 13% of original price = 13% of y

13% = 0.13 by dividing by 100 to convert it to a decimal

13% of y = 0.13y

new amount = original amount - sale = 1y - 0.13y = 0.87y

tax = 8% of new price = 0.08 * (0.87)y

final amount = new amount + taxed amount = 0.87y + 0.08*(0.87)y = (0.87 + 0.08 * 0.87)y = 0.9396y
