Distance = d

d² = [1 - (-3)]² + [y - (-6)]²

5² = 16 + (y + 6)²

25 = 16 + (y + 6)²

(y + 6)² = 25 - 16 = 9

y + 6 = ±3

y = -6 ±3

so

y = -3 or -9
