Answer:

D. 7 1/30

Explanation:

4 1/5 + 2 5/6=

The first thing we notice here are the fractions, whenever working with fractions, the first thing to do to make your life easier is to find the common denominator for the fractions. What's a common denominator?? a common denominator is when two fractions can have the same number on the bottom. We know that 5 times 6 gives you 30, so 30 can be our common denominator.

4 1/30 + 2 5/30 =

ok so, we changed our denominator, but now what? since we changed the denominator, this also affects the numerator (the numbers on the top). to fix this, we have to do the same to the numerator as we did to the denominator. to change 5 into 30, we multiplied it by 6, this means we also have to multiply 1 by six, 6/30. Don't forget the other fraction too! Since we multiplied 6 by 5 to get 30, we also have to multiply 5 by 5, 25/30.

4 6/30 + 2 25/30 =

now that the fractions have the same denominator, we can just go ahead and add the digits and numerators!

we know that 4 + 2 = 6, so we can remove them and put 6 at the end of the equation

6/30 + 25/30 = 6

but we aren't done yet, now we add 6 + 25 which gives us 31, out of 30

wait! 31/30? that doesn't sound right. 30 out of 30 automatically gives us a 1, so we can add that to the 6 we got earlier, 6 + 1 = 7. Since we are left with 1/30 we will add this to the final answer: 4 6/30 + 2 25/30 = 7 1/30

Answer:

the answer is D. 7 1/30

Explanation:

first make them into improper fractions:

21/5 and 17/6

second find a common denominater (im using 30) and multiply so they have 30 as the denominater:

126/30 and 85/30

third add the improper fractions:

126/30 + 85/30 = 211/30 and as a mixed number it would be 7 1/30
