- If an atom has a charge of +4 and it has 6 electrons, how many protons does it have in its nucleus?

Number of electrons + number of protons equal the total charge of the molecule. In this case, the total charge is +4.
If protons are positive and electrons are negative, we can set up the following equation.

p - e = total charge

p - 6 = +4

p = 4+6

p = 10 protons
