Explanation:

when rounding to , for example 2 significant figures we count from the first digit on the left towards the right. the second number /figure would be 0 but we need to round the initial number off so now we look at the 3rd number (in this case 9) if it is less than 5 we basically cut off the rest of the number (e.g 4.041 to 2 significant figures would be 4.0), but if the third number (from the left is 5 or greater than 5 we add 1 to the second number (e.g 4.091 would be 4.1 to 2 significant figures.
