Point B is between A and C. AB = 2x + 1 and BC = 3x. If the measure of AC is 41, what is the value of x?

2x+1+3x=41 \\\\5x+1=41\\\\5x=40\\\\x=8

Since AB and BC combined would create the total amount of distance between AC your equation becomes 2x+1+3x = 41. 2x and 3x share the same variable therefore you can add them together which then makes the equation 5x+1 = 41. Now the equation can be solved, subtract 1 from both sides which gives you 5x = 40. From there you divide 5 from both sides which leaves you with 8 as the value of x.
