A number is divided by 7. Thirty-five is added to the quotient. The result is 65. What was the original number?

Firstly I decided to call the original number 'x'

I then ran through the processes the question stated: x/7 + 35 = 65

The quotient means the result obtained by dividing two numbers so in this case that would be the result of dividing the number by 7

Now I solved 'x' (the original number) using the equation i created

x/7 + 35 = 65

The goal is to get 'x' on one side by itself so i started by taking away 35 from both sides: x/7 + 35 - 35 = 65 - 35

So i ended up with x/7 = 30

Then to get rid of the fraction (i.e. get 7 out of that side of the equation) i multiplied both sides by 7: x/7 multiplied by 7 = 30 multiplied by 7

So i ended up with the answer x = 210
