The length of a rectangle is 2 more than twice the width. If the perimeter of the rectangle

is 34 inches, what is the area of the rectangle?

Answer:

Area = WxL=60 square inches

W = 5 inches

L = 12 inches

Explanation:

Note, some teachers take points off if you don't include units!!

L = 2W+2

W = W

34 = 2L + 2W (perimeter)

34 = 2(2W+2) +2W solve for width

34 = 4W+4+2W = 6W+4

30 = 6W, so W=5

L = 2(5) +2 = 12
