If the temperature outside was 73 degrees at 5:00 p.m., but it fell 19 degrees by 10:00 p.m., what is the temperature at 10:00 p.m.? Write an addition equation and solve.

Answer: 73 + (-19) = x, x = 73-19 = 54 degrees

Step-by-step explanation: Normally this would be a subtraction equation, but if you're looking for addition you can fix that by adding a negative number- which is the same as subtraction. In this case, the times have nothing to do with the equation itself.
