Teacher: Who can tell me how to simplify 3 + 5 x 2 – 4?

Student -girl: I think you should do 3 + 5 first and the answer is 12.
Student -boy: I think you do 5 x 2 first and the answer is 9
Teacher: Why did the boy and girl get different answers?

The girl didn't follow PEMDAS

Explanation:

PEMDAS is the order in which you solve mathematical equations.

Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition and Subtraction.

If you add before multiplying you'll get a completely different answer.

The boy followed PEMDAS, while the girl didn't.
