Answer: a.) Pete bought 18 sandwiches.

b.) Morgan bought 15 coffees.

Step-by-step explanation: The formula P = C + 1/2S lets us know that sandwiches are worth half as many points as coffees.

a. If Pete has 32 loyalty points after buying 23 coffees, then how many sandwiches has he bought?

Plug in the number of points (P) and the number of coffees (C).

32 = 23 + 1/2S

subtract 23 from each side of the equation.

9 = 1/2S

Now. to solve for S, multiply each side by 2.

18 = S

Pete bought 18 Sandwiches.

b. If Morgan has 22 loyalty points after buying 14 sandwiches, then how many coffees has she bought?

The same method can be used for problem b.

Plug in the number of points (P) and the number of sandwiches (S).

22 = C + 1/2 (14)

Multiply 1/2 by 14.

22 = C + 7

To solve for C, subtract 7 from each side of the equation.

15 = C

Morgan Bought 15 coffees.
