Hello!

Firs things first, lets write down what we needed to put in the equation.

Candy bars = kids with costumes

Gummies = kids with no costume

$0.80 per candy bar

$0.25 per gummies

100 children visited Mrs. Jones.

She gave out $69 candy

We have two equations to make!

x + y = 100

0.80x + 0.25y = 69

Now lets solve for x!

x + y = 100

0.80x + 0.25y = 69

Let pick a number that adds up to 100,

80 + 20 = 100

now lets plug those numbers into the equation.

0.80(80) + 0.25(20) = 69

64 + 5 = 69

69 = 69

now we know that,

x=80

y=20

but what does x and y represent?

x represents kids in costume

y represents kids in no costumes

What is the question asking?

How many children who visited Mrs. Jones's home were wearing a costume?

x represents kids in costume

so, the answer is 80,

80 kids were wearing a costume.

I hope this helps,

Have a wonderful day!
