It is important to note that all of the original American colonies were established to escape the religious persecution from their original countries of England, France, etc.
Jamestown was no different. Jamestown was the first successful American colony established in April 1607 when the colonists first landed there.
English minister Richard Hakluyt (1552-1616) said in his “Discourse on Western Planting”;
“We shall, by planting there in America, enlarge the glory of the Gospel and from England plant sincere religion and provide a safe and sure place to receive people from all parts of the world that are forced to flee for the truth of God’s Word”.
