Step 1: Plot your y-intercept.
The “-2” in the equation tells you (0,-2) is the y-intercept, so plot that on your graph.
Step 2: Plot the second point using the slope.
The “1.5” on the x is your slope. You have two options here.
Option a: From (0,-2) go up 1.5 unit and right 1 and plot a point. 1.5 = 1.5/1
Option b: From (0,-2) go up 3 units and right 2 and plot a point. 1.5 = 3/2
Either way, you have two points and can draw your line.
If you need a third point, just repeat the “up and to the right” you did already, but do it from your second point you plotted.
In general, the slope-intercept form is y=mx+b, where
- (0,b) is your intercept
- m is your slope
