Customers of a phone company can choose between two service plans for long distance calls. The first plan has a $9 monthly fee and charges an additional $0.17 for each minute of calls. The second plan has a $24 monthly fee and charges an additional for each minute of calls. For how many minutes of calls will the costs of the two plans be equal?

88.23

Explanation:

The equation for the first plan is:

9 + 0.17x

The equation for the second plan is

24

Then you set the two equations equal to each other

9 + 0.17x = 24

Subtract on both sides

0.17x = 15

Divide

x = 88.23
