Direct speech means when the words of a speaker is used in quotation. For example will be “I’m leaving” or “let’s go over there”

Indirect speech is asking but not in quotation. As for example would be ‘he didn’t want to go’ or ‘she left and said goodbye’ and it’s mostly mainly British talk

Direct Speech- Direct speech is a report of the exact words used by a speaker or writer. Contrast with indirect speech. Also called direct discourse. Direct speech is usually placed inside quotation mark sand accompanied by a reporting verb, signal phrase, or quotative frame. Examples and Observations.

Indirect Speech- The reporting of something said or written by conveying what was meant rather than repeating the exact words, as in the sentence He asked me whether I would go as opposed to He asked me, "Will you go?" Also called: reported speech.
