Answer:

The number is 20

Explanation:

Five times the difference of a number and 9

5(x-9)

is equal to twice the number plus 15.

=2x+15

5(x-9)=2x+15

Distribute

5x-45 = 2x+15

Subtract 2x from each side

5x-45-2x = 2x+15-2x

3x-45 = 15

Add 45 to each side

3x-45+45 =15+45

3x = 60

Divide by 3

3x/3 = 60/3

x =20

Answer:

The number is 20

Explanation:

Let the number be x

5(x - 9) = 2x + 15

5x - 45 = 2x + 15

5x - 2x = 15 + 45

3x = 60

x = 60/3

x = 20
