Find the value of x and KL if K is between J and L.

1. JK = 6 x , KL = 3 x , and JL = 27
2. JK = 2 x , KL = x + 2, and JL = 5 x – 10

6x + 3x = 27

9x = 27

x = 27/9

x = 3

2) JL = JK + KL

5x - 10 = 2x + x + 2 {Combine like terms}

5x - 10 = 3x + 2

Add 10 to both sides

5x = 3x + 2 + 10

5x = 3x + 12

Subtract 3x from both sides

5x - 3x = 12

2x = 12

Divide both sides by 2

x = 12/2

x = 6
