A washer and a dryer cost $930 combined. The washer costs $ 80 more than the dryer. What is the cost of the dryer?

Answer:

the dryer costs $425

Explanation:

x = washer

y = dryer

x + y = 930

x = y + 80

using the second equation as substitute in the first equation we get

y + 80 + y = 930

2y = 850

y = $425

x = y + 80 = 425 + 80 = $505
