-4(x-8)+2x=18\\-4x+32+2x=18\\-2x+32=18\\-2x=-14\\x=7

Now, the mistake in the original equation is that -4(x-8) was expanded to be -4x-32 - It is not '-32' because multiplying two negative numbers (-4 and -8) will give you a positive number - that number should be 32. Of course, that one silly mistake then made the rest of the equation wrong too!
