You do additive property of equality by adding 1 to both sides.

-6x - 1 = 35

= -6x - 1 + 1 = 35 + 1

= -6x = 36

Division property of equality by dividing both sides by -6 or 6

= -6/-6x = 36/-6

= 1x = -6

x = -6
