subtitute value of x:

p(-1/2)= 2(-1/2)^3 + (-1/2)^2 -k(-1/2)-1

p(-1/2)=2*-1/8+1/4+k/2-1

p(-1/2)=-1/4+1/4+k/2-1

p(-1/2)=k/2-1

2x+1 is the factor of p(x) so

k/2-1=0

k/2=1

k= 2
