To start off your going to plug in 4x into the equation. Which will turn into 5x + 4x = 36. You will add 5 and 4 since they both have an x in it. Which would leave you to 9x = 36. Only thing left to do is divide 36 by 9. Which would equal to 4 and that will be your answer. X=4
