Explanation:

(a)/(b) = (c)/(d)

Add 1 to both sides of the equation:

(a)/(b) + 1 = (c)/(d) + 1

Note that

(a)/(b) + 1 = (a + b)/(b)

Likewise,

(c)/(d) + 1 = (c + d)/(d)

Therefore,

(a + b)/(b) = (c + d)/(d)
