Answer: so a^2 + b^2 = 5

Explanation:

(a+b) = 3

ab = 2

so

(a+b)^2 = 3^2

a^2 + 2ab + b^2 = 9

or, a^2 + 2*2 + b^2 = 9

or, a^2 + 4 + b^2 = 9

or, a^2 +b^2 = 9-4 = 5
