Change to improper fractions

1 7/8 = (8*1+7)/8 = 15/8

4 1/2 = (2*4+1)/2 = 9/2

15/8 y = 9/2

Multiply each side by 8/15

8/15 * 15/8y = 9/2 * 8/15

y = 9/15 * 8/2

y = 3/5 *4

y = 12/5

Changing back to a mixed number

y = 2 2/5
