The easiest and most time-effective way to approach this problem is to use the quadratic formula:

x=(-b\pm√( b^2-4ac))/(2a),

where a = 2, b = -1, and c = 4. (We get this from the general quadratic: ax² + bx + c.)

When we plug in our numbers, we get
x=(1\pm√(1-32))/(4) which also equals
(1\pm i√(31))/(4), or the first choice!
