-- Their sum is 12.

-- If they were equal, each would be 6.

-- To make them differ by 2 without changing their sum, move 1 from the numerator (make it 5), to the denominator (make it 7).

Let numerator be x

  • Denominator=x+2

ATQ

\\ \sf\longmapsto x+x+2=12

\\ \sf\longmapsto 2x+2=12

\\ \sf\longmapsto 2x=12-2

\\ \sf\longmapsto 2x=10

\\ \sf\longmapsto x=(10)/(2)

\\ \sf\longmapsto x=5

Now the fraction is

\\ \sf\longmapsto (x)/(x+2)

\\ \sf\longmapsto (5)/(5+2)

\\ \sf\longmapsto (5)/(7)
