If we use the Pythagorean theorem

a^2 + b^2 = c^2

Plug in the values given

77^2 + b^2 = 95^2

Now we have to change the equation to solves for b (the height)

77^2 - 95^2 = -b^2

Then we solve

5929 - 9025 = -b^2

(-3096 = -b^2)/-1

3096 = b^2

sqrt(3096) = sqrt(b^2)

55.6… = b

Answer:

55.6 inches

Explanation:

We use the Pythagorean Theorem in this question ~

a^(2) + b^(2) = c^(2)

A = Height (What we are finding in the problem.)

B = Width (77 inches)

C = Diagonal (95 inches)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

a² + (77)² = (95)²

a² + 5929 = 9025

a² = 3096

a =
√(3096) = 55.641710...

Round to the nearest tenth ~

55.641710... ≈ 55.6 inches
