A square has side length y. The side length of a second square is 2 more than y. Express the area, A, of the second square in terms of y.

Answer: y^2 + 4y + 4

Work Shown:

Area = (side length)^2

Area = (y+2)^2

Area = (y+2)(y+2)

Area = y^2 + 2y + 2y + 4

Area = y^2 + 4y + 4
