The cafeteria staff prepared 60 pounds of lasagna. From the lasagna prepared, 80% was sold and 20% was donated to the local fire department for lunch. How much lasagna was donated?

Explanation:

When finding a percentage you move the decimal point of the percentage to the left twice.

Find the amount that was donated,

60 x 0.2 = 12

So 12 lbs were donated

You can also do it this way:

First we find the amount that was sold,

60 x .80 = 48

Then subtract 48 from the total of 60 to find the left over,

60 - 48 = 12
