1) express x from the first equation x+y=4 x=4-y

2) It is the system of equations, so both equations are simultaneous.

you can replace x to 4-y in the second one

2 *(4-y) +3y=2

8-2y+3y= 2

y=-6

x= 4-y=4-(-6)=10

The answer is x=10, y=-6
