x = 25

Explanation:

ΔBDR ~ ΔQDC

so

(24 + 40)/(15 + x) = 40/x

or

(24 + 40)/40 = (15 + x)/x

24/40 + 40/40 = 15/x + x/x

3/5 + 1 = 15/x + 1

3/5 = 15/x

Cross multiply,

3x = 15*5 = 75

x = 75/3 = 25
