Solution:

We know that:

  • Given equation:
    x - (2)/(7) = 5

1. Add 2/7 both sides.

  • x - (2)/(7) = 5
  • =>
    x - (2)/(7) + (2)/(7) = 5 + (2)/(7)
  • =>
    x = 5 + (2)/(7)

2. Make the denominators equivalent.

  • =>
    x = 5 + (2)/(7)
  • =>
    x = (5 * 7)/(7) + (2)/(7)
  • =>
    x = (35)/(7) + (2)/(7)

3. Simplify the equation and find the value of x.

  • =>
    x = (35)/(7) + (2)/(7)
  • =>
    \bold{x = (37)/(7) = (35)/(7) + (2)/(7) = 5 + (2)/(7) = 5(2)/(7) }
