Answer: 7 / 8 should be added

Explanation:

Let x be the number that should be added

Write the equation

-3/2 + x = -5/8

Add -3/2 on both sides

-3/2 + x + 3/2 = -5/8 + 3/2

x = -5/8 + 3/2

Change the denominator of 3/2 to 8 in order to do addition

x = -5/8 + 12 / 8

x = 7 / 8
