6 + 2x = 4x + -2

6 + 2x = -2 + 4x

Add -4x to both sides

6 + 2x + -4x = -2 + 4x + -4x

Combine like terms

6 + -2x = -2 + 4x + -4x

6 + -2x = -2 + 0

6 + -2x = -2

add -6 to both sides

6 + -6 + -2x = -2 + -6
