Explanation:

Swap sides so that all variable terms are on the left hand side. This changes the sign direction.


2x < 5+7

Add 7 to both sides.


2x < 5+7

Add 5 and 7 to get 12.


2x < 12

Divide both sides by 2. Since 2 is positive, the inequality direction remains the same.


x < (12)/(2)

Divide 12 by 2 to get 6.


x < 6
