I know that x=19 but how do you get 19?

Explanation:

Recall that
\log 10 = 1 so we can rewrite the equation above as


\log 10 + \log 2 = \log (x + 1)

Also recall that
\log(ab) = \log a + \log b so the left-hand side becomes


\log [(10)(2)] = \log (x + 1)

or


20 = x + 1 \Rightarrow x = 19
