Consider a political discussion group consisting of 4 Democrats, 9 republicans, and 4 independents. Suppose that two group members are randomly selected in succession to attend a political convention. Find the probability of selecting two Democrats.

All in all, we are selecting from a pool of 17 members (4+9+4 = 17). So seeing we have 4 democrats, the probability would be 4/17.

Normally we would simplify the fraction from there but 4/17 is already the simplified form. Therefore that is already the answer.
