If Pablo gives 20% of his money to Mary, then Mary would have 25% more money
than Pablo. If Mary gives 20% of her money to Pablo, he would have more money
than Mary by what percent?

Answer:

81.25%

Explanation:

x = Pablo's money

y = Mary's money

y + 0.2x = 1.25×0.8x = x

y = 0.8x

or

x = y/0.8 = 1.25y

her money is 80% of his money, or in other words, he has 25% more money than her to begin with.

but now she gives him 20% of her money.

x + 0.2y = a × 0.8y

1.25y + 0.2y = a×0.8y

1.45y = a×0.8y

a = 1.45/0.8 = 1.8125 = 81.25%

if she gives him 20% of her money, he would then have 81.25% more money than her.
