plug in the actual values:

A = BH

A = 17(3)

A = 51

Now let's find the area of the rectangle below;

Using the formula we applied to the upright rectangle;

A = BH

Though first, we need to find the height.

The total height of the two rectangles combined is 17, the height of just the upright rectangle is 15. So we subtract the two to get the height of the bottom rectangle, (17 - 15) = 2
