This is due to the equator the plants have more light available, so the ecosystem can give them better conditions to survive and reproduce. Remembering that the carrying capacity is the largest population size an ecosystem can support without degrading itself, in the equator would be higher as it can have better conditions of light, so they would survive and reproduce more and the largest population the ecosystem could support would be higher.
