Sub in the values of X and Y
(1 * 2 + 1 * 2^2 - 1) (2 * 1 + 3 * 2)
PEMDAS. Everything is in parentheses so on to exponents. We have one. 2^2 = 4 so,
(1 * 2 + 1 * 4 - 1) (2 * 1 + 3 * 2)
Next, multiplication and division left to right.
(2 + 4 - 1) (2 + 6)
Addition and subtraction left to right.
(5) (8) or 5 * 8
Start PEMDAS over with the rest now that we’re outside of the original parentheses. No parentheses to navigate, no exponents left, multiplication and division. 5 * 8 = 40
