I noted every shape with letters.

A and C are squares and all 3 B's and E are rectangles.

Now we need to calculate the surface area of every shape in order to find out the area of the whole shape.

The surface area of A and C can be found by using the following formula:
s^(2) where s means side.

A = 16×16 = 256

C = 16×16 = 256

The surface area of B and E can be found by using the following formula: w×l where w = width and l = length.

A single B = 16×8 = 128

All 3 B's = 128×3 = 384

E = 16×8 = 128

The area of the main shape is = 256+256+384+128 = 1024 square cm.
